This hunting scene, by a painter who was, a
s a young man, an apprentice wheelwright at Belvoir Castle, shows John Henry, 5th Duke of Rutland on a grey horse in the distance, with his brother General Lord Charles Manners on the left, and his other brother, Major-General Lord Robert Manners in the foreground. Lord Robert is holding his hunting whip to his eye, as in the crook of the whip was a lens. The actual whip pictured in use is mounted on the bottom of the frame of this picture.
